Self-publishing outfit, Lulu.com handles all of my self-published books. Last week, I wrote to Lulu and asked them to fix the cover images on my store page. The colors on the website didn't match the printed books.
I'm happy to say the Lulu Support Team has fixed the problem and I've just rewritten the description blurbs for each of my four books. So now my Lulu book store is looking really spiffy. I even lowered the prices.
Writing descriptions of the books is much easier now that some time has passed. I find one's own work is easier to describe when seen from a distance.
What sparked this checkup is that Piranha Club cartoonist, Bud Grace, who has been publishing book collections of his strip on Amazon, completed his latest collection exclusively with Lulu. When I order his, I'll include a few copies of my own books just to refill my personal stock.
Whenever someone asks me about self-publishing, I refer them to Lulu.com. They're great to work with. I like how I can order one copy at a time while making adjustments before publication. And I particularly like the variety of printing options available.
The 9 x 7" option is a comfortable size for my comics and after the Sharing Bears book, I began drawing my comics to perfectly fit that size. Occasionally, similar self-publishing websites are recommended to me, but if they don't have the 9 x 7" option, sorry, no dice.
I met the founder (or a founder) of Lulu at a convention many years ago. We got into a conversation about juggling (the kind of juggling I'll be doing at The Rabbit event this weekend). I asked him how Lulu's print-on-demand system was viable cash-wise and he told me they were renting a printing press rather than buying one. I don't know if that's still true today.
