I've been studying 3-D animation program, Blender by watching the instructional video series from Blender Guru. Blender is available for free download. The Blender Guru videos have adverts on them, but it's a small price to pay for continuing education.
The beginner tutorial teaches how to sculpt a 3-D doughnut and mug. That's my doughnut and mug in the above screenshot. My next animations will still be hand drawn, but if I can figure this out they'll likely include 3-D elements.
The trickiest thing about learning blender is remembering all the quick keys. I keep having to skip back to earlier videos whenever I forget something. Learning is easier when you can rewind the teacher.
