It looks good, but I couldn't get it to move consistently. For the idea to work, this thing has to be convincing. I've just recreated it in Blender as a vector-based 3-D animation. Now it looks like this:
The motion is perfectly even and I can control the speed with the power of math. I prefer the look of the previous one, but I can adjust this one to match. Once I've got it just right, I'll import it into TVPaint and begin animating the rest of the short
