Voice recording

I completed the audio for Fatal Error over the Summer. I spent hours reciting the lines repeatedly into a recorder, trying to match my actual line readings to the version I have in my head. Playing it back later, I'd find that the quality wasn't right and do more takes.

It's reassuring to see professionals going through the same process. This video from voice actor James Arnold Taylor of his Fred Flintstone recording session is a great example of what it's like. He has to match the performance to what the client has in mind, so the client is on the phone while he's doing it.

It feels ridiculous repeating the same lines over and over with slight variations, but that's how it works. He says that there are a million ways to read a line and it's the truth.
