Local animator Paul Fierlinger has won the Animafest Zagreb’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be accepting it in June at the 28th World Festival of Animated Film in Croatia.
Paul and Sandra Fierlinger were guests of the Philadelphia Independent Animators Festival at The Plastic Club two years ago. They showed segments from their works in progress, one of which, Slocum at Sea with Himself, has since been completed and is available to watch online.
The Fierlingers are advocates of French animation software TVPaint, which is what I use for the animation I've been posting here. They were beta testers of the software when it first came out and their suggestions resulted in improvements that are still present in the program today.
Reading the interviews they did while promoting their previous film My Dog Tulip is what convinced me to start using it and it's great. It's like animating the traditional hand-drawn way without the big stacks of paper.
Of their many films, I think my favorite is A Room Nearby. Here they are accepting a Peabody Award for it in 2005.
