Hand-sewn masks

The new Creating Fashion with Laurel video is now online.

There have been some improvements since the first episode. It's brighter, thanks to more powerful lighting. I learned a lot about color adjustments and graphics on this one. A big win was figuring out how to get the "Laurel" in the opening titles to write itself.

The last change I made was to makeup. The star of the show tried something different with her makeup that the camera didn't like. When I adjusted the background color, she went green.

From this tutorial on YouTube, I learned how masks (image masks, not the wearing kind) can apply subtle adjustments to specific areas. Not only will the mask adjust the tint to remove the green, it then tracks to her, staying over her face as she moves around.

Now you can't tell the scenes with the makeup from the scenes that were shot a week earlier, without it. It's amazing what video technology can do. I've been reading about visual effects artists in Cinefex magazine and they say this a lot, if you can tell what I did, I didn't do it right.
